Pressure Sustaining valves
Pressure sustaining valves or back pressure valves (BPV) are designed to maintain a minimum preset upstream / back pressure regardless of downstream demands.
The pressure setting can be manually adjusted or preset.
The back pressure / sustaining valve will stay open until the inlet or upstream pressure drops to the preset pressure, at which point the valve will slowly close to maintain or sustain the back pressure.
When the back pressure increases above the minimum pressure setting, the pressure sustaining valve will slowly open again, allowing flow downstream.
The upstream / back pressure is displayed by the pressure gauge.
